Gorilla Theatre is proud to announce the winners of the
2001 Inaugural Dramatists Festival

1st Place - To Die for Want of Lobster by Kato McNickle
2nd Place - Bea Why Oh Bea by Tom Lavagnino
3rd Place - The Ritual by David Hanson

The deadline for submissions to the Gorilla Theater's Annual Playwriting Competition is April 1, 2002. We are accepting any unpublished full-length play or one-acts. Submissions are filtered through the competition committee of the board of directors, and selected plays are read by the artistic director. Final selections will be announced in August, and selected plays will be given staged readings during the 2002 Inaugural Dramatists Festival in September, during which a winning play will be chosen. Winners will receive a cash prize of $100 and consideration for production.

Submit all plays to PO Box 45043, Kansas City, MO 64171-5043. If you wish to have your manuscript returned, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope. If you wish notification that we have received your play, please include a self-addressed stamped postcard. Gorilla Theatre Productions reserves all rights to produce any play submitted to our contest.

Gorilla Theatre does not produce a specific form of theatre, although we are regarded as an avant-garde troupe. We deal with classics, Greek drama, Shakespeare, contemporary plays, edgy musicals, one-acts, and premiere productions by local and national playwrights. Our annual playwrighting competition has provided exposure for professional and amateur writers for ten years and many of our winning plays have been produced. Past plays that have received a production include: Land's End, The Feast, The Southern Man, Gangs, Halloween, Butterfly, Ghost Writer, Death As Usual and The Great FORD Debate. To Die for Want of Lobster will be produced in September at Gorilla Theatre's Apehouse.

If you have any further questions regarding the annual playwrighting competition, feel free to contact Gorilla Theater.
